Video: North Point’s iBand Rocks Out

Check out this awesome video from North Point’s iBand. They perform Carol of the Bells, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, and Feliz Navidad using only iPads and iPhones. You’ve got to admit that it brings a smile to your face!

Christmas Card 2010

Here is our Christmas card for 2010. We used Shutterfly, which made things really nice and easy. On top of that, they look great. Thanks to our friend, Mark, who took the photo during our time in NYC for Thanksgiving this year.

Thanksgiving in NYC

As you know, my wife and I do not have family in New England. So, instead of our usual dinner with friends from church, we headed down to New York City. Because we were so close, we thought it would be great to see the Macy’s parade up close.

Our friend, Mark, went with us on our trek to NYC. After helping out at Lazarus House on Wednesday night, we hopped on a bus from Boston to NYC. It was not the greatest bus ride, as the driver did not seem that experienced, but we got there nonetheless. In fact, we got there even earlier than we expected. From 2:30-4:00am, we walked around the streets of NYC, seeing things like “Ground Zero.”

After staking out our spot on the sidewalk, we settled in for the long wait. After five hours, the parade actual began. It was not until 10:00am before we saw it, though, as we were near the end of the parade route. The first balloon was Snoopy, and the kept going from there. They were so much larger in person, and we also got to see all the people it took to keep the balloons in place. There were some great marching bands and fun floats with celebrities. We got to see Jimmy Fallon, Jessica Simpson, Kanye West, and many others.

After the parade, we grabbed lunch at a nearby bar & grill. I, of course, had to have turkey on Thanksgiving…so I got the closest thing I could get — a turkey wrap! Afterward, we walked to Time Square, Rockefeller Center, and Central Park. It was Yvette’s first time in NYC, so we had to hit all the big spots. Unfortunately, it was raining a bit, so it was not as fun as it could have been.

We caught the 8:00pm bus back to Boston, and eventually were home at about 1:00am. We slept in the next day, “Black Friday,” and then did a bit of Christmas shopping (both online and at the mall). There was no need for us to stay out all night like last year’s Black Friday.

Overall, I definitely recommend heading to NYC for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. It is much different than watching it on TV. However, be sure to dress warmly, and prepare for a long wait. In the end, though, it is totally worth it!

David Crowder Band – “Shine” Video Using Lite-Brite

If you have not seen the David Crowder Band‘s latest music video for their song, “Shine,” you are missing out. It was created entirely by the band using a Lite-Brite in stop-motion style. It’s an amazing song and an amazing video!

Here Come the Colors

It is that time of year! The leaves are changing from green to their annual gold and red. I have been in New Hampshire for 3 years now, and I am still awestruck. What an awesome God, who has created this for us!

For my friends, family, and other readers who do not live in New England, it is hard to imagine what autumn here is like. In order to help you, I’ve tried to take photos and video. Just over a week ago, my wife and I headed up to Mount Cardigan for a hike. We had a great time! We reached the summit of both Cardigan and its neighbor, Firescrew. The trees were amazingly colorful, and in turn, beautiful. Unfortunately, it is difficult for a camera to capture what the human eye can see. However, I hope these photos help a bit.

Sea Lions and Fish in Redondo Beach

A few weeks ago, Yvette and I had the pleasure of going to Redondo Beach, CA, for the Wii Games Summer 2010 national championship. While there, we were able to take a boat ride. Along the way, we got to see a large group of sea lions hanging out. Even further out, we were able to see tons of fish. I made sure to get some video to share this experience with others.

SoulFest 2010

Yesterday, I had the privilege of heading up to Gunstock Mountain with a couple of the guys from the youth group. We were blessed to have free tickets to SoulFest. After getting there, and it being the first time for any of us, we decided we would just hang out for a bit and see the booths. After a while, we got in line for the ski lift, because Jon Foreman (lead singer of Switchfoot) was performing at the mountaintop stage. Little did we know, they wanted to charge us $10 for a full-day pass we’d only be able to use once by that time. So, being cheap and poor, we decided to hike up the mountain. Big mistake! While I do not know how far we walked, the hike did take us a good 45 minutes, and most of that was straight uphill. By the time we got there, we were panting and covered in sweat. However, Jon Foreman was great! It was a really cool experience to hear great music on the top of a mountain. After the hike back, we got some food, looked around, and grabbed a seat for the evening concerts on the main stage — Phil Joel, Paul Colman, Hawk Nelson, and Switchfoot. I was reminded how much I really enjoy Switchfoot. They are so good in concert!

Overall conclusions from our experience:

  1. Be sure to see Switchfoot in concert if you have not done so lately.
  2. Make sure to take the lift to the top of Gunstock Mountain, even if you have to beg for money.

MixFest 2010

Yvette and I found some cheap tickets ($10) to MixFest for this past Monday, so we headed down to Boston for a date night. We got to see and hear Kris Allen, Maroon 5, Switchfoot, Goo Goo Dolls, and others. I took some bits and pieces of the night to share a little about what it was like. I hope you enjoy.

Independence Day 2010

Yvette and I had a great weekend celebrating our nation’s birth.  From hanging out at a friend’s pool to festivals and fireworks, we had a fun time.  On Saturday, we hung out at the pool before heading to Danvers, MA, for a festival.  It was a great time, and we ate some fried dough and french fries before watching a really good fireworks display.  On Sunday, after church, our friend Mark joined us as we headed down to Boston.  On the way, we stopped at Sonic (only 2 in New England so it was a treat). We eventually arrived in Boston, and we headed down to Harbor Fest on the Esplanade.  We finally found a spot and waited for the fireworks.  To pass time, we played “I Spy” and “20 Questions.” I forgot how hard those games are!

I’ve posted 2 videos from the Boston Fireworks below.  You can also find a lot of photos on my Facebook photo album.
