Ever since I could remember, I read the New Testament, especially Acts and Paul’s letters, with a certain lens. They contain instruction and encouragement to set our lives on the things of God. And all that is designed to help the individual and the church continue to grow in their discipleship. But as I recently stepped full-time into my role with National Network of Youth Ministries, I’ve begun to gain a new perspective.

Many times, I would skim by all the details about Paul and his companions journeys, who he stayed with, how they supported him, and his desires to see them again. While I knew these parts were important—they are in the Bible, after all—I naïvely thought those sections didn’t have much to teach me. Boy was I wrong!

Since stepping into a missionary role, and having to raise my support, I am beginning to see Paul’s words very differently. They are filled with earnestness as he explains why it’s so important for them to partner with him in the Gospel. He writes about his deep longing to see them again. He encourages that they support others. He lovingly challenges them when he sees they are straying from who he knows them to be. And he shares with them about all God is doing because of their partnership.

I have so much to learn from Paul and the early missionaries, as well as all the others who have come before me. And I’m so excited about it.

While I still don’t fully understand why God would call me, with all my faults and ignorance, I’m very glad that He did. Therefore, my goal is to honor His decision by living a life that is focused on Him and the mission He has placed before me: to build up healthy youth leaders and unite the Church in order to reach teenagers for Christ.

And if you want to join me in making this happen, I would love to partner with you!
