As I sit here at 11:11pm on 1/1/11, I can’t help but think of the many people who are celebrating the New Year and making their resolutions. What will people try to do this year? Lose weight? Work out? Be a better person? While all of those things are great by themselves, my mind also goes to what I heard my friend and fellow youth minister, Jeff Masters, say last night. As he spoke to a group of teens from six different churches, gathered together for an awesome overnighter, he asked us all to make a specific resolution — to make God first in our lives. He challenged both the students and adults. If a person was able to watch your life all day long, would they be able to you were a Christian? Would they be able to tell you were sold out to Christ? If not, maybe that can be your resolution this year. I know that I want to do even more for God this year.
On top of that, here are a few other resolutions I’ve got. Many of them are things that I’ve already been trying to do, but I thought why not try to do them in the new year too.
- Work out at least 3 times a week.
- Run a half-marathon with my wife.
- Read the Bible everyday.
- Blog at least once a week.
- Learn about & begin to invest savings.
What are your resolutions for today and the new year?
