Hey, everyone! This past month has been extremely busy. In fact, ever since I moved to Colorado, I’ve not had a lot of time to just rest and reflect, so I wanted to take a moment to do that today and then ask for some prayer.
First of all, the weather in northern Colorado is ridiculous. I’m glad it’s generally warmer than New England, and I really enjoy the blue skies most of the year, but the inconsistency is a bit crazy. The temperatures are all over the place throughout the winter and spring. One day, it was 20º F in the morning with frost on our car windows, it warmed up to the high 60’s during the day, and then we had sleet/snow that afternoon and evening with the temperature in the high 30’s. Usually, it doesn’t change that much during one day, but from one day to the next, it does. We had a thin layer of snow on our cards yesterday morning, and today, the high is 71.
But now on to more meaningful things…
The past several months of starting a new ministry have been extremely fulfilling, but it has also had its challenges. I’m sure I will write more about it at a later time, but the biggest current struggle is time and resource management. I’ve got a really good idea of the longterm plan God has for this ministry, but I can’t just simply start building it right now, because there was already something going on when I arrived. So, a lot of my time is spent working with what we currently have and putting things in place to mold it into the eventual end-goal. That is not always an easy task — actually, it rarely is.
The great side of all this is that I feel we’re taking more steps in the right direction that backwards or sideways. We definitely have some things to work through, especially on the staffing side of family ministry. Our family pastor just resigned, and we’re still searching for at least one, or maybe two, people to add to the children’s ministry team. As for student ministry, we probably don’t have the funds to bring on a third full-time staff position, so we’re looking in another direction — residents. I’ve actually got two prospects I’m pretty excited about bringing on for the next year.
I also just got back from the Dominican Republic, where I led a high school mission trip. We had eight students and three parents go along with Yvette and me. We served with Go Ministries and Central Church in Santiago. It was a really great trip, and I’ll share more about it in a future blog post, but it was also tiring (both the trip itself and the planning).
So, here we come to the prayer request portion… And actually, for those who have been paying attention, you probably already know where this is going. Please pray for me to find time to rest and reflect as I continue to lead this ministry. Pray also for me to figure out the best way to mold things the right way to inspire, equip, and empower others to come alongside this ministry. It has such amazing potential, which I’ve seen fruit from already, but I know God wants to do so much more. I just need to have some patience as He puts all the pieces together.
