Last week, I got to attend the Global Leadership Summit, connect with some amazing leaders from GLS NextGen, and be trained by some great leaders!! Here were some of my biggest takeaways from each speaker:
- When everyone else sees a problem, look for that pattern that’s creating the problem. (Craig Groeschel)
- Leadership is not about showing your impact. It’s helping others feel they have impact. (Vanessa Van Edwards)
- Leadership is not a privilege; it’s a conviction and a commitment to serve others. (Julio Garcia)
- One peak doesn’t define your life. There needs to be more peaks that are built on that one. The goal is to burn on and not burn out. (Jim Collins)
- Waiting isn’t the absence of making a decision. Waiting is a decision. And fear is good at disguising itself as wisdom, patience, etc. (Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten)
- When in a negotiation, the less I speak, the less opportunity I have to say something stupid. (Kwame Christian)
- Talking about succession, begin thinking about how your organization will be better when you’re gone, and don’t let your pride mess up the plan. (David Ashcraft)
- African Impalas can leap 10 feet straight up and 30 feet forward, but they can also be held behind a 3 foot wall, because they can’t jump to something that they cannot see. We can be the same way if low level things get in the way and continue to block our vision. (Priscilla Shirer)
- We need to ask ourselves: Why am I alive, and to what would I give my life? (Arthur C. Brooks)
- Speaking of climbing Mt. Everest, standing on a pile of rock and ice doesn’t change the world. Being there for others when they need help is what changes the world. (Alison Levine)
