My parents are currently out celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary on a cruise in the Bahamas. While I wish I was there with them, since I’ve never been on a cruise, I also cannot think of a better way for them to celebrate. They are together, in an area many refer to as “paradise,” and they are having a great time.

I was born soon after my parents were married, so I have been around for that vast majority of their life together. Sure, I don’t remember much about those first couple years, but the 26+ years I do remember have had a huge impact on me. Their marriage has set an example for me, and it will continue to do so for many years to come.

Through the years, there have been some rough points, but the fact that they always stayed together and worked it out is huge for me. They knew that marriage was a commitment for life, and they lived that out. Also, it has been amazing to see how God has drawn them together through the years. They are a living example of how a couple will grow together the more they individually focus on God. As my parents have grown in their relationship with Him, they continue to love each other more and more.

Specifically, I want to thank my father for giving me an example of how to be a proper husband. He is my mother’s biggest fan. He defends her no matter what the cost. He has put himself at risk many times in order to help my mother. If I end up being half as good of a husband to Yvette, I think I will have done well. Thank you, Dad, for teaching me how to love my wife. I believe you have a good idea of what Ephesians 5:25 talks about.

Happy 30th Anniversary, Mom and Dad!! I love you both so much!!!!
